UPDATE: The question isn’t will my drive fail, but rather when will my drive fail? Here’s the link to the post Ray remembers; my days of losing my life in a hard drive failure are long behind me. I continue to use SuperDuper and iDefrag weekly.

model: MacBook Pro
warranty status: quality program E1

my laptop is behind the Genius Bar at the Apple Store getting repaired. the meltdown occurred late Wednesday evening & the soonest I could get an apointment was Friday, so in all fairness I’m counting total days lost.

can’t edit RAW files or open QB Pro on an iPhone. yet.

Note to self: next time, start Twittering Genius Bar efficiency from Day 1.

I don’t know. Always backup your stuff. Mine’s a 2007, and my NIVIAD card and logic board were both replaced.

“In July 2008, NVIDIA publicly acknowledged a higher than normal failure rate for some of their graphics processors due to a packaging defect. At that same time, NVIDIA assured Apple that Mac computers with these graphics processors were not affected. However, after an Apple-led investigation, Apple has determined that some MacBook Pro computers with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor may be affected. If the NVIDIA graphics processor in your MacBook Pro has failed, or fails within two years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge, even if your MacBook Pro is out of warranty.”

In all fairness to the Pentagon City Genius Bar, I was offered a sincere apology for it taking so ridiculously long. Apparently, they have “staffing issues” and one Genius who has “personal issues.”

Ray - I seem to remember a post on this blog from a couple of years back when your hard drive began making a horrible sound and a fellow named Bill (was it?) from Apple made a house call and fixed you up for about 300 bucks. You had a good picture of him.

I think you should repost it, just for posterity sake.
